Alice Kahla

Services for Alice Kahla, 96, of Conde will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton S.D. Rev. Terry Kenny will officiate. It was her wish that her body be donated to the USD Medical School, Vermillion.

Alice passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen with family at her side.

Alice Elsie Sievert was born on January 31, 1916, to Wilhelm and Emma (Liebswager) Sievert in Brown County, SD. She was baptized at Wetonka on June 11, 1916, and confirmed August 4, 1929 at Zion Lutheran Church of Harold. Alice worked as a beautician in St. Paul, MN and as a member of the staff for L.P. Ordway. Alice was united in marriage to Leonard Kahla on August 29, 1942, in Bristol SD. Due to her husband’s disability she spent many years working on the family farm near Crandall while raising their two sons. In 1964 Alice and Leonard moved to Conde. Alice worked for Earl Baertsch until her retirement.

She loved animals, cooking, knitting, sports, and was an avid gardener.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; her daughter-in-law, Kathryn Kahla; her parents; three sisters, Elsie Voss, Lena Shonley, and Elsie Marie Simpson; brothers, Ed Sievert and Walter Sievert; and great grandchildren, Dahlia Alhejaj and Samia Alhejaj.

She is survived by her sons, Dale of York, NE, Darell of Conde; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Richard (Kay) Kahla and their children Reagan and Rylie of Gretna, NE, Raquel (Troy) Caldwell and their children Kaelynn and Olivia of Omaha, NE, Robert (Kirsten) Kahla and their children Hunter and Eden of Lincoln, NE, and Roxanne Alhejaj and her children Nilah, Zackarea, and Yasmine of Omaha, NE.

The family prefers memorials to the Conde Ambulance.
