Mabel Jorgensen Obituary

Services for Mabel Jorgensen, 97, of Ferney will be 3:00 pm, Monday, September 24th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ferney. Rev. Lloyd Redhage will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. www.paetznick-garness.com

Visitation will be held at the chapel from 4-8pm on Sunday and will continue prior to services at the church on Monday.

Mabel passed away September 21, 2007 at Sun Dial Manor, Bristol.

Mabel Irene Mielke was born on November 17, 1909 near Ferney to George and Lena (Jensen) Mielke. She lived in Ferney all of her life and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mabel was working as a babysitter and housekeeper for the Schley family when she met her husband, Alvin Jorgensen. They were married on April 21, 1927 in Aberdeen. Two children; DeWayne "Sody" and Lorraine were born to this union. Mabel and Alvin farmed in the Ferney area for many years. During this time, Mabel also did other jobs, including traveling to neighbor farms to debeak chickens, gathering/packing eggs for Kolbo Produce in Groton and cutting honey for Taylor Honey in Andover. She also baked at the Groton School system for thirteen years.

Mabel was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ferney. She enjoyed baking cookies for her family, making quilts and afghans and crocheting. Mabel also loved to play cards and go to bingo.

Grateful for having shared in her life is her daughter; Lorraine Zimney of Ferney, her daughter-in-law, Alice (Jim) Rentz of Aberdeen, two grandchildren; Rich (Tami) Zimney of Ferney and Deb Gerlach of Sioux Falls, eight great-grandchildren; Blake Gerlach of Sioux Falls, Melissa (Aaron) Dahl of Aberdeen, Patrick (Danielle) Gerlach of Sioux Falls, Lindsay (Nathan) Tarnowski of Sioux Falls, Jacqueline Gerlach of Aberdeen, Kevin, Lisa and Jasper Pray of Groton, six great-great-grandchildren; Faith Gerlach, Ethan Dahl, Riona and Thomas Gerlach, Annabelle Tarnowski, Laila Roberts, her sister, Lillian Johnsen of Estacada, Oregon and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, one son, her sister, Hattie (Ben) Bahr and brother, Arthur "Bud" (Virginia) Mielke.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Melissa Dahl, Danielle Gerlach, Lindsay Tarnowski, Jacqueline Gerlach and Lisa Pray.

Casketbearers will be Blake Gerlach, Aaron Dahl, Patrick Gerlach, Nathan Tarnowski, Kevin Pray and Jasper Pray.
