Services for Olga Cavanaugh, 100, of Benson, MN and formerly of Andover will be 10:30am, Tuesday, October 2nd at Zion Lutheran Church, Andover. Rev. Dennis McManus of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Benson, will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. www.paetznick-garness.com
Visitation will be held at the chapel Monday from 5-8 pm and will continue at the church for one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Olga passed away September 28, 2007 at Golden Age Living Center in Benson.
Olga was born on May 11, 1907 in Andover to Halvor & Bertha (Langland) Folkestad. She attended rural school and graduated from Bristol High School. She continued her education in Ellendale, ND and graduated from Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen. Olga taught school in Day Count until 1934, at which time she united in marriage with Sherman Cavanaugh. Together they farmed north of Andover until Sherman suffered several heart attacks and passed away in 1983. In 1986, Olga moved to Benson and at the time of her death was living at the Golden Age Living Center in Benson.
Olga was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Benson. Before moving to Minnesota, Olga was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Andover, where she served in LWML for over 50 years. Olga was one of the original founders of the Dakota Quilt Inc., founded in Langford and an advocate for the American Cancer Society.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Cavanaugh of DeGraff, MN, one son, Rodger (Jan) Cavanaugh and grandson, Cody of Neenah, WI and her great-grandson, Grayson.
Preceding her in death was her husband, two brothers, three sisters and one infant brother.
Casketbearers will be Kevin Anderson, Kory Anderson, James Kroll, Bert Raap, James Olson, Greg Topple and Dean Townsend.
