Services for Wayne Cutler, 95, of Claremont will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 23, 2019 at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Rev. Tom Sumers will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services.
Wayne passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Avantara Nursing Home, Groton.
Wayne Russel Cutler was born on September 7, 1924 in Langford to Homer and Grace (Snyder) Cutler. He attended country school as a child and later graduated from Claremont High School. Wayne was united in marriage with Patricia Daly on May 14, 1945 in Webster. He enlisted in the US Army where he served as a Medic in Antwerp, Belgium. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Claremont where he farmed until 1975. Wayne then worked for the Department of Transportation as a highway appraiser.
Wayne was a member of the Claremont United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the Claremont American Legion and had just received his 70th year membership pin. He was recently honored for his service in World War II at the Veterans Day Service at the Groton Area School and received a quilt made specially for the honoree’s by the American Legion Auxiliary.
Wayne enjoyed the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time at the lake. On any given day you could find him working in his yard with his dog Bear by his side.
Celebrating his life are his wife of 74 years, Patsy, two sons, Robert (Connie) Cutler of Claremont, Donn (Cheryl) Cutler of Aberdeen, one grandson Shawn Cutler of Aberdeen, four granddaughters: Lisa (John) Sippel of Groton, Stephanie (Tom) Sumers of Faulkton, Michelle (Marshall) Lovrien of Aberdeen and Shannon (Ryan) Schwab of Aberdeen and seven great grandchildren. Wayne is also survived by his siblings, Kay Cutler of Claremont, Lorelii Odland of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gary Cutler of Pierre, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Bear.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Dean and Val.
