Alys D. Snyder, 85 years of age, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Country Club Care Center, Warrensburg, MO.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Groton, SD. The Rev. Mike Kelly will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Conde, SD, under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel of Groton. Visitations will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the church, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday, prior to the Mass, at the church.
Alys was born April 3, 1928, in Randolph, South Dakota, to Lloyd Edward & (Marion) Frances Miesen Cleveland. She grew up in Conde, graduating from Conde High School in 1946.
In March, 1947, Alys was employed by The Peoples Bank, Conde. In May, 1954, she resigned and returned to work at the bank again in August, 1955, retiring on January 3, 1992, after a career of over 43 years with the bank.
Alys married Gerald R. Snyder, August 30, 1951 at St. John's Catholic Church, Conde. They resided 10 miles southwest of Conde, where they farmed, and raised Registered Aberdeen Angus cattle.
She was an avid bowler, earning numerous bowling trophies. She enjoyed playing in couples and women's bridge groups. She was a member of the Conde Birthday Club.
Alys was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and choir, and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and choir. She was a guest member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warrensburg, Mo.
Alys and Gerald built a home, and moved to Groton, in 1995, where she resided until November, 2009, at which time she moved to Country Club Care Center, Warrensburg, MO.
Following Gerald's passing in 2000, Alys spent her winters in Warrensburg, with her brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Anna Cleveland, their children and families.
Alys is survived by two sister-in-laws, Anna Cleveland, Warrensburg; Ramona Cleveland, Spokane, WA; two brother-in-laws, Robert (Carolyn) Snyder, Groton, and George Snyder, Oronoco, MN. 21 nieces and nephews.
Alys was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald R. Snyder, infant daughter Kathryn Ann, brothers, Wayne L. Cleveland, and Gerald "Bud" Cleveland, sister-in-law, Agnes Snyder; and brother-in-law Don Snyder.
