Carol Smith

Services for Carol Lee Smith, 84, of Conde will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21st at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.  Father Greg Tschakert will officiate.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel.  

Visitation will be held prior to services on Saturday.

Carol passed away May 17, 2022 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.

Carol was born on March 26, 1938 to Victor and Lorene Fortin and grew up in the Turton area.

 Carol was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Turton, a  member of the Conde Legion Auxiliary for many years and passionately committed to the Conde Community Cemetery maintenance.

Carol was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed planning parties and a special cake for her grandchildren’s birthdays. She and her husband, Floyd, farmed West of Conde.  They persevered the challenges of farming together until Floyd’s retirement. In retirement,  Floyd and Carol enjoyed their winter home in Yuma Arizona for 18 years. In Yuma, they made lifelong friendships and enjoyed the desert sun from November until March each year.

Carol is survived by her children, Crystal (Terry) Nordholm of Fort Lupton, Colorado, Loren Smith (Sheryl Gaspar) of Conde and Larry Smith of Redfield. Grandchildren, Chase Twomey, Eric Twomey, Stacy Smith, Keri Smith and Andy Smith, Miquette (Nick) Bottom, Angelia Smith (Ray) and Devon Smith.  Great Grandchildren, Nevaeh Temple, Tihanna Temple, Micah Ortmeier, Kimber Ortmeier, Reagan Smith, Aiden Morehouse, Chance Morehouse, Aria Rae Ann Bottom, Maddox Lerew and Ellieanna Jones.  Brothers and Sisters, Bonnie Hiles, Sherry (Wayne) Board, Steve Fortin, Richard Fortin, Roger Fortin, Norbert Fortin, Delbert (Janelle) Fortin, Dan (Donna) Fortin, Ken (Joyce) Fortin. Sister-in-laws, Gloria Fortin and Vicki Fortin.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Floyd Smith, Grandson, Dawson Smith, Parents, Victor and Lorene Fortin, Brothers, Robert Fortin, James Fortin and Terry  Fortin and Brother-in-law Kenneth Hiles.
