Darlene Jones

Services for Darlene "Doll" Jones, 82 of Groton will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 14th at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Groton. Pastor Elizabeth Johnson will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.

Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Darlene passed away March 11, 2012 at Golden Living Center, Groton.

Darlene Lavonne, known as Doll by family and friends, was born on September 21, 1929 in Clark to Bernhardt and Olga (Bjerk) Larson. She attended country school in Clark County, then graduated from South Dakota Beauty Academy in Sioux Falls, and later studied and obtained her GED. Darlene was united in marriage with Richard Jones on September 30, 1958 in Watertown. Together they raised three children in Clark, Willow Lake, Mansfield, Webster, and Groton. During this time, Darlene always owned and operated a beauty salon. She enjoyed time spent with clients over her many years as a beautician.

Darlene was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Groton and was a longtime member of the Nigeria Circle. She enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Minnesota Twins. Darlene will forever be remembered as "the rock" of her family, serving as a mentor to her children and grandchildren. She would share with anyone how proud she was of them all. Darlene loved to go fishing. Her preferred catches were perch and walleye. She also loved to watch her kids and grandkids play sports and always told them "You did good!"

Celebrating her life are her three children; Melenie (Doug) Sombke of Groton, Steven (Renee) Jones of Morgan City, Louisiana, Jim (Mendy) Jones of Groton, nine grandchildren; Nikki (Kevin) Kotzer, Brett Sombke, Bryce Sombke, Bryan (Whitney) Sombke, JayCee Jones, Tyler Jones, Marlee Jones, Austin Jones, Emerlee Jones and two great-grandchildren, Adeline Kotzer and Haivyn Benning.

Preceding her in death were her husband Richard Jones, her parents, and 12 brothers and sisters: Lawrence Larson, Olaf Larson, Ragna Peterson, Milton Larson, Bernice Larson, Bernard Larson, Bernelle Larson, Lester Larson, Marvin Larson, Bernhardt Larson, LaVonne Larson and Orland Larson.

Casketbearers will be all of her grandsons: Brett Sombke, Bryce Sombke, Bryan Sombke, Tyler Jones, Austin Jones, and Kevin Kotzer.

Honorary Casketbearers will be her granddaughters and great granddaughters.
