Services for Dawn Jones, 81 of Groton will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 9th at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Groton. Pastor Elizabeth Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held Thursday at the funeral chapel from 4-8 p.m. There will be one hour of visitation Friday at the church.
Dawn passed away Monday, July 5, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Groton.
Dawn Herron was born on July 13, 1928 in rural Brown County. She was the daughter of Walter and Mattie (Phillips) Herron. Dawn attended country school near her home in West Hanson Township. She graduated from Groton High School in 1946, and went on to receive a teaching certificate from Northern State College. She taught in Miller, SD before marrying Gwynne Jones in 1949. Together they made their home and living on his family farm northeast of Bath, SD. They had four children. In later years, Dawn worked at Control Data in Aberdeen until her retirement.
Dawn had been an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Groton since her baptism. At one time, she taught Sunday school and was secretary of the Lutheran Brotherhood. Dawn also belonged to the B.R. Neighbors Extension Club, WELCA, India Circle and the Quilting Club at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Gwynne; two sons and two daughters, Dana (Rose) Jones of Watertown; Owen Jones of Cleveland, Ohio; Kim (Arnie) Schock of Fargo, North Dakota; and Karla (Jan) Torkelson of Los Angeles, California. Dawn is also survived by her six grandchildren, Keith (Katie) Jones, Belynda (Jim) Weber, Matthew Jones, Michelle Jones, Stacey (Trevor) Hone, Jenny Schock and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents and he brother, Donald.
Casketbearers will be Ken Davis, Ron Ringgenberg, Larry Akkerman, Arnie Schock, Gordon Locken and Keith Jones.
