Services for Deloris Johnson, 87 of Lake Preston will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 17th at the Badger Lutheran Church in Badger, SD. with Rev. Brian Ricke officiating. Burial will follow in the Danish Evangelical Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to services.
Deloris passed away May 12, 2024 at Avantara Groton, SD where she had lived since August 2023. She had previously resided at Bethany Meadows in Brandon, SD after moving from her home in Lake Preston.
Deloris Marie Scholl was born in Vermillion on December 27, 1936 to Charlie and Bessie (Stage) Scholl. She attended country school and elementary schools near Vermillion, and graduated high school from Plainview Academy in Redfield in 1954. She attended Union College in Lincoln, NE.
On August 16, 1958 she married Evald V. Johnson, and they made their home in Lake Preston where they owned and operated Johnson-Henry Funeral Home for many years. They were both very active volunteers in community organizations and as members of the Lake Preston Lutheran Church. Deloris was known for her beautiful handiwork, favorite recipes, and always being willing to share her talents and help wherever needed. Her husband passed away in 1988.
Deloris and E.V. enjoyed their many fishing trips to the River, a trip to Portugal, and family vacations in the Black Hills. She later traveled to England and throughout the U.S. with her sisters, and made several trips to Idaho, visiting their good friends the Arbons.
Celebrating her life are her children, Linda Johnson of Groton, Jim Johnson of Milwaukie, Oregon, Paul (Julie) Johnson of Lake Preston, Bruce (Laurie) Johnson of Brandon, five grandchildren, Anna (Brett) Schwan, Sara (Jason) Schaefer, Nicole (Andy) Truebenbach, Travis (Tina) Johnson, Marissa (Trent) Rehder, 17 great-grandchildren and her brother, Charles Scholl of Madison.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, E.V., and sisters, Donna, Charlene, Barbara, Carol, and Martha.
Casketbearers will be Travis Johnson, Trent Rehder, Andy Truebenbach, Jayden Truebenbach, Rick Hillestad, and David Hillestad.
