Dolores passed away Monday, March 23rd, 2020 at Avantara Groton.

Dee was born on December 21st, 1928 to George and Rosalia (Rose) Johnson in Irene, SD. The 6th of 8 children, Dee graduated from Irene High School in 1946. She attended USD in Vermillion where she met Richard (Dick) Baily of Parker. They were married on September 1st, 1949 in Irene.

Upon graduation, they started their family in Vermillion. Dick's career steadily moved the family east, ultimately settling in Bethesda, MD where she raised 7 children.

Dee was involved in various volunteer organizations and many friendships were formed. She was an impeccable hostess despite the help of her children. She was the favorite neighborhood mom, helping the kids warm up after a cold day of sledding, providing snacks between adventures on long summer days and making sure the kids got to their own homes before dark.

Holidays were very special to Dee and as the family grew so did the number of tables she would set. She loved a full house and all were welcome!

Dee moved to Groton in 1989, working at the Holiday Inn/Ramada Inn in Aberdeen until her retirement. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She loved to travel to visit her kids and grandkids and attended the high school graduations of all of her grandchildren and most of the college graduations as well. She was the consummate wedding guest and perfected the role of Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom.

She loved games, putting together jigsaw puzzles, solving crossword puzzles and crocheting. Dee also was an excellent seamstress, sewing clothes and costumes for her kids when they were young. She also loved to garden & can her famous Dilly Beans.

She is survived by 6 children: Rick Baily, Gambrills, MD, Mike Baily, Aurora, Ill, Sue (Harv) Fliehs, Groton, Jeanne (Bruce) Jouannet, Conway, MA, Jennifer (Charlie) Dirks, Groton, Pam (Dale) Allen, Jessup, MD; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and many nieces and nephews.

Dee was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosalia; her parents; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton, has been entrusted with Dee’s arrangements.
