Mass of Christian Burial for Dolores Geary, 86, of Conde will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 24th at St. John's Catholic Church, Conde, SD. Father Joseph Vogel will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Conde under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton, SD.
Visitation will be held at the church from 4-8 p.m. on Friday with a wake service at 7:00 p.m.
Dolores passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on April 20, 2010 at her residence in Conde.
Dolores Marette was born near Conde on April 28, 1923 to Mathias & Helen (Bertsch) Bawek. She attended Conde High School and graduated in 1941. She was active in sports and was Homecoming Queen. Dolores earned her Teaching Certificate from Northern State Teachers College and taught for five years in the Conde, Crandall and Turton schools. On September 24, 1947, she was united in marriage with Glen Geary at St. John's Catholic Church, Conde. The couple made their home in Conde and raised seven sons and two daughters. Together they enjoyed traveling extensively. Glen Geary passed away in 1998 after fifty years of marriage.
Dolores was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and had been active in the Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. She was a woman of strong faith and prayer and was a believer in Jesus Christ. She also belonged to the Conde American Legion, Senior Citizens and the Civic Development Board. She enjoyed playing whist, bowling, crocheting, embroidery, and did lots of traveling. Dolores wrote a weekly column for the Conde News and also had driven the bus for Senior Citizens. She was active in her children and grandchildren's lives and faithfully followed all of their sporting and other events. She enjoyed cooking for and spending time with all of her family and friends. Dolores truly had a gift of hospitality.
Celebrating her life through memories are her nine children, Terrence (Mireya) Geary of Sugarland, Texas; Gail (Connie) Geary of Pasadena, Texas; Glenna (Larry) Remington of Groton; Wayne (Jill) Geary of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; Bruce (Cindy) Geary of Conde; Randy (Terry) Geary of Mandan, North Dakota; Kent (Susanne) Geary of Conde; Brian Geary of Yankton; Angela (Duane) Dalton of Sioux Falls; 28 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Dolores is also survived by two brothers, Morris (Joyce) Bawek of Conde, Ronald (Becky) Bawek of Conde, her sister, Janice Taylor of Conde, her brother-in-law, Willard Geary of Plymouth, Minnesota, two sister-in-laws, Margaret Smith of Brookings and Betty Geary of Lowell, Arkansas and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Glen, an infant brother, Donald, her niece Bonnie Lentsch, an infant granddaughter, Mariah Geary; her grandson, Todd Isern; two daughter-in-laws, Erin Geary and Mary Geary; one sister-in-law, Myrtle Geary and two brother-in-laws, Arnold Smith and Laverne Taylor.
Honorary Casketbearers will be all of Dolores's Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
Casketbearers will be Ryan Remington, Derrek Geary, Brookes Geary, Blake Geary, Zach Geary, and Justin Dalton.
