Services for Doris Gandy, 96, of Groton, will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21st at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Rev. Dennis Gellhaus will officiate. Burial will follow in Groton Union Cemetery.
Doris passed away September 17, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Groton.
Doris Mae was born on October 7, 1913 in Andover to Jerome and Ella Belle (Spencer) Mallett. She attended school in Andover. Doris was united in marriage with Alfred Paul Roettele and together they made their home on a farm near Verdon. Doris worked side by side with her husband, helping with harvest and raising chickens, turkeys and ducks. Alfred passed away in 1962, and Doris later moved to Eugene, Oregon. While in Oregon, she met and married Jack Elmer Gandy. Doris worked outside the home at a Goodwill Store in Eugene. Jack passed away in June of 1980. Doris later returned to South Dakota in 1999.
Doris had been a member of the Conde United Methodist Church and the Verdon Home Builders Extension Club. She was active in 4-H and taught piano lessons to many area children. She enjoyed canning, sewing and card games with family and neighbors.
Celebrating her life through memories are her two daughters; Vivian Dobberpuhl of Conde, Carole Roettele of Groton, four grandchildren; Valerie Baker of Eugene, Oregon, Landal (Michelle) Leonhardt of Ipswich, Yvonne Lorenz of Groton and Roni (Kathy) Dobberpuhl of Conde, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and her nephew, Richard Mallett.
Preceding her in death were her parents, both of her husbands, one brother, Harold Mallett; one sister, Alys Voss; her nephew, Robert Mallett and a great-grandson, Mikey Dobberpuhl.
Honorary Casketbearer will be nephew, Ben Mallett.
Casketbearers will be Jeff Sippel, Roni Dobberpuhl, Landal Leonhardt, Tim Gonsoir, Dale Washnok and Rick Pigors.
