Doris Spencer Obituary
Services for Doris L. Spencer, 96, of Groton and formerly of Claremont will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 9th at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Rev. Rodney Ulmer will officiate. Burial will follow under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Doris passed away December 4, 2020 at Avantara Groton.
Doris was born on November 10, 1924 in rural Columbia to Louis and Delia (Smith) Nelson. She attended and graduated from Columbia High School in 1944. Doris continued her education at Aberdeen Business College and was employed as a secretary in Aberdeen. On November 20, 1946, she was united in marriage with James Spencer. Together they made their home in the Claremont area until 1985 when they moved into town. They enjoyed winters in Arizona until James passed away in 1993.
Doris was an excellent cook and enjoyed golf, bowling and bridge games with friends. She was artistic and loved to paint and do craft work of all kinds. Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church in Claremont where she was active in UMW. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and Adah Chapter of Eastern Star.
Celebrating her life are her two grandchildren; Rhonda Wilson of Harrisburg and Jason (Melinda) Spencer of Claremont. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Roberta Spencer of Houghton, step-grandson, Shane Falk of Houghton, her sister, Josephine Little of Aberdeen and three great-grandchildren: Autumn, Conner and Danessa.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, son, Ronald, one brother and 4 sisters.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.
