Services for Edna Bleibaum, 85, of Groton will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 28th at the First Presbyterian Church, Groton. Rev. Bill Duncan will officiate. Private family burial will be at the Ludden City Cemetery in Ludden, North Dakota under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held Monday at the funeral chapel from 4-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Edna passed away April 24, 2009 at Golden Living Center, Groton.
Edna LaVerne Sukut was born on June 19, 1923 to William & Elizabeth (Klein) Sukut in Wishek, North Dakota. She attended school in Ellendale, ND graduating in 1940. She had accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized into the Christian faith at the First Baptist Church in Ellendale.
On December 26, 1944 Edna married John M. Bleibaum at Webster, SD. Together they made their home in Groton, where they managed the Red Owl Store. Edna began working as a waitress at Amos' Corner and throughout the years was employed by Omer's CafAC., Juel's CafAC. and the Red Horse Inn. In later years, Edna became a foster grandparent at the Groton Elementary School and Teddy Bear Day Care Center.
Edna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Groton, where she served as a Deacon and was active in the United Presbyterian Women. She enjoyed doing handicrafts and was known to many as "the lady with the scrubbies". She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and love being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and particularly enjoyed watching Kirby Pucket.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her four daughters, Ramona Helgeson of Webster; Connie (Ed) Stauch of Groton; Carrylann (Bob) Goens of Gillette, Wyoming; LaVonne (Jeff) McKinney of Sioux Falls, one brother, Marvin (Ruby) Sukut of Bismarck, North Dakota and nephew Paul (Collette) Sukut of Bismarck, North Dakota, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, one infant brother, one son-in-law, two step-sons and one step-grandchild.
Honorary Casketbearers will be all of Edna's Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
Casketbearers will be Richard Bleibaum, Phil Bleibaum, Paul Sukut, Jim Gerdes, Glenn Cooper and Gene Brolin.
