Evelyn James

Phoenix, Arizona-A Celebration of Life for Evelyn James will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7th at the Columbia Congregational Church.  Rev. Jon Damsoka will officiate.  Inurnment will follow in Houghton Cemetery.  Visitation will held on Sunday at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Evelyn passed away December 8, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living in Phoenix.

She was born in Pampa, Texas on February 19, 1928 to John L. and Frances (Callahan) Cole.

Evelyn married Ivan James on November 1, 1945 and continued to farm with her husband.  To this union, two children were born: Ronald and Bobby Ann James.  She started work at Lahman Mfg. Co. in Hecla and then went to Norwest Bank (now Wells Fargo) in Groton where she worked for 29.5 years until retirement in 1990.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan in addition to her parents and sister,

Hazel. She is survived by her son, Ronald (Harmony) James and Bobby Ann (Sheldon) Kangas, four grandchildren; Alan (Melinda) James, Chad (Heather) James, Raquel Kangas and Heidi Kangas (Lawrence) Tunks and four great-grand children, a brother Daryl (Lavonne) Cole and several nieces and nephews.

She was loved by so many and will be dearly missed.
