Services for Evelyn (Tople) Wormke, 92, of Pierpont will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 28th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Rev. Tim Sersen will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date in Homer Cemetery, Pierpont under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the church in Aberdeen on Thursday from 5-7 p.m.
Evelyn passed away February 23, 2014 at Bethesda Home in Aberdeen.
Evelyn Irene was born on March 26, 1921 in Farmington Township to Fred and Alfreda (Miller) Wagner. She attended school in Pierpont. Evelyn and her sisters had large gardens on the farm and did lots of canning. They also butchered chickens and made lefse at Christmastime. On January 16, 1941 she was united in marriage with Benjamin Tople in Aberdeen. They made their home on the farm by Pierpont and were blessed with five children. Benjamin passed away in March 1967.
Evelyn married Raymond Wormke in Andover on November 7, 1970 and together they enjoyed traveling. They went on several Farmer's Union bus trips to Florida, California and northeastern United States. They also took a trip to Hawaii with Farmer's Union. They enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors, especially pinochle and whist.
Evelyn was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pierpont. She was active in the church circle group, Welca and the American Legion Auxiliary. Evelyn was gifted in music and could play the piano and organ by ear. She was a cancer survivor. She also enjoyed baking, watching the Twins play and doing jigsaw puzzles in the winter.
Celebrating her life are her children, Barbara (Tom) Kenyon of Mina; David (Jeanne) Tople of Mina; Larry (Cathy) Tople of Belle Fourche; Cindy Tople of Aberdeen; and Danny Tople of Sioux Falls; her grandchildren: Ron (Anne Morman) Kenyon, Bob (Denise) Kenyon, Dawn (Terry) Friedrichsen, Lance (Christin) Tople, Greg (Sonda) Tople, Ben Tople, 12 great-grandchildren and her nephew, Randy Wagner of Andover.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two husbands, her grandson, Richard Kenyon and her siblings, Ralph, Warren, Harold, Clifford, Vera, Doris, Edna and Helen.
Casketbearers will be Ron Kenyon, Bob Kenyon, Lance Tople, Greg Tople, Terry Friedrichsen and Ben Tople.
