Everett passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Aberdeen Health & Rehab.
Everett Ray Hofer was born on January 19, 1917 to Edward and Mattie (Ball) Hofer. Although Everett was born on a farm near Bath, he spent his growing up years on 10th Avenue in Aberdeen. In fact, he used to call the group of guys he grew up with the "10th Ave Gang." He often told the story of walking out in the winter to "West Hill" to skate. And he also recalled walking to high school at Aberdeen Central High.
After two years at Northern, he worked with his dad in a radio shop on south Main. When he married Marjorie Malcolm from Custer, they moved to Billings, Montana, for a brief time and then to a farm east of Verdon. But they lived on a farm located 2.5 miles north of the Bath corner for 62 years.
Everett was active through the years in the Bath community as a school board member and township treasurer. He was a life long member of the Christian Science Church in Aberdeen and a 60 year member of the Masons.
Besides farming, he maintained a tv repair and sales business for many years. He had a real talent for problem solving and an aptitude for electronics. He had one of the first tv's in the area and then the first color tv. In later years he would construct his own satellite dish. Just a few years ago, he was doing email and TiVo on his Direct TV access. Besides his interest in all things technical and electronic, he loved to read newspapers and keep current on national and world affairs.
Everett is survived by Marjorie, his wife of over 71 years, and by his three children, Sharon (Larry) Wheeting, Edward (Margaret) Hofer and Patricia Hofer (Ted Corley). He is also survived by five of his six grandchildren; Cheryl (Randy) Walker, John (Christine) Wheeting, Lauri (Dan) O'Hara, Lisa (Tony) Burns and Eric (DeAnn) Hofer. Also surviving Everett are 16 great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren. Everett was preceded in death by his parents and oldest granddaughter, Teri Wheeting Sharp.
Everett lived a long and good life.
