Services for Gay Ogren, 93, of Langford will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 27th at Highlanda Lutheran Church, rural Langford. Rev. Charles Bunk will officiate. Burial will follow in Highlanda Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30p.m.
Gay passed away August 23, 2010 at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton.
Gay Christa was born on September 22, 1916 in Gayville, South Dakota to Alonzo and Wanda (Hartshorne) Foster. She graduated from Meckling High School and from the Capitol Beauty School in Omaha in 1937. Gay operated a small beauty salon in Claremont from 1937-1940. On October 5, 1940, she married Mervin Ogren of Langford. Together they made their home on the Ogren family farm, 6 miles east of Langford. To this union, seven children were born. In 1978, when Mervin retired, they moved into Langford.
Gay was a member of Highlanda Lutheran Church and Women's Circle. She also belonged to WELCA and MARCO Extension Club. In earlier years, Gay was a 4-H Leader for 21 years and helped start the Landford Band Mother's Carnival. She enjoyed reading, bird-watching, painting and ceramics. Gay made special ceramic Christmas ornaments for friends and family for 30 years. She will be remembered as being a wonderful baker, mother and grandmother.
Celebrating her life are her children, Carl Ogren of Colfax, Washington; Carol Jones of Britton; Ron (Lynn) Ogren of Wessington Springs; Ann (Wayne) Erickson of Sisseton; Don (Suzanne) Ogren of Langford; Faye Bartz of Britton and Robert (Robin) Ogren of Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Gay is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three sisters-in-law, Arlyce Ogren of Langford, Eunice Foster of Britton and Carolyn Kettering of Britton.
Preceding her in death was her husband, her son-in-law, Leon Jones, three sisters: Velva, Lucille and Gerry and three brothers: Forrest, Hollis and Mirl.
Honorary Casketbearers will be her granddaughters: Danelle Gonzalez, Christa Chambers, Tracy Jones Ott, Pamela Burchill, Shanley Dorris, Kari Nielsen, Kimber Severson, Kayla Serocki, Katie Zeeb, Beckie Ogren and Jennifer Schaeffer.
Caskebearers will be her grandsons: Nathan Ogren, Tom Jones, Stacey Ogren, Daniel Ogren, Mike Bartz, Sean Ogren and Jacob Ogren.
