Gwendolyn Broman

Mass of Christian Burial for Gwendolyn Broman, 92, of Groton will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 19th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Groton. Father Mike Kelly will officiate. Burial will follow in Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.

Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Gwen passed away January 15, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Groton.

Gwendolyn Frances O'Connor was born in Mitchell on January 9, 1918 to Vincent and Gertrude O'Connor. She attended Cathedral High School in Sioux Falls. Gwen graduated from Sioux Falls College earning degrees in mathematics and physics. She later attended Northern State University and majored in library science. On October 21, 1950, she united in marriage with Leonard Broman. The couple made their home in Groton, where Gwen worked as a teacher and school librarian for 43 years.

Gwen was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, PEO, Rip-N-Ravel Extension Club, Olive Grove Golf Course, Andover Threshing Club, and numerous bridge clubs. She was active in the community and helped on many community events, including the Carnival of Silver Skates, Harvest Festival, Snow Queen Contests and Groton's 100th Celebration. Gwen enjoyed her grandsons, her many wonderful friends, and playing bridge.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Leonard; her daughter, Stacy, and son-in-law, Robert Sauvageau, of Inver Grove Heights, MN; two grandsons, Andrew and Kevin; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Eileen O'Connor of Sioux Falls; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Glen and Angie Broman; nephews, David DeBelser and Bob O'Connor; nieces, Brenda Wilson, Sheila Long, Kate Schnack, Kay Bryant, Kim Metzgar and Karol Eckel; and special friend, Irene Breitkreutz.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Ruth DeBelser.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Mary Anne Clark, Rose Waage, Shirley Larson, Jean Olson, Carolyn Snyder, Bonnie Erdmann, Mary Cutler, Kelly Clark, and Rose Mary Howard.

Casketbearers will be Gordon Sieh, John T. Clark, Verl Cutler, David DeBelser, John Sauvageau and Walter (J.J.) Jenkins.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Chaudhary, Dr. Hart, Alisa Hogue, CNP, Lisa Howard, RN, Barbara Suurmeyer and all of the wonderful, caring staff at the Golden Living Center, Groton.
