Services for Harold "Red" Sanderson, 76, of Claremont will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2nd at the United Methodist Church, Claremont. Pastor Nancy Manning will officiate. Graveside services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church on Saturday.
Harold passed away December 28, 2009 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen.
Harold Leslie Sanderson was born on June 6, 1933 in Verdon to Ivan and Jennie (Huson) Sanderson. He attended and graduated from Claremont High School. He was part of the undefeated football teams for four years. On August 7, 1950 he was united in marriage with Bonnie Bredberg in Claremont. Together they farmed for several years before purchasing grocery stores. Harold operated stores in Frederick and Claremont. During this time, Harold also trained and raced thoroughbred horses in Nebraska, Canada and South Dakota. The past eleven years Harold served as the Racing Secretary for the Northeast Area Horse Racing Inc. in Aberdeen. Harold was a member of the Claremont United Methodist Church.
Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife, Bonnie, two children; Bruce (Carolyn) Sanderson of Claremont and Jeanne (William) Reints of Langford, seven grandchildren; Justine, Samuel & Elizabeth Sanderson, Taylor, Vaughn (Melinda), Carter and Mollie Reints and three great-grandchildren; Madeline, Hayden and Hudson Reints.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Lloyd and Harlow, an infant brother, Floyd, and two sisters, Fern Nereim and Olive Feser.
Casketbearers will be his grandchildren.
