Services for Harvey Dorfschmidt, 86, of Groton, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Groton. Father Mike Kelly will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 5-7 p.m.
Harvey passed away February 12, 2013 at Golden Living Center, Groton.
Harvey R., son of Richard and Myrtle (Rosenow) Dorfschmidt was born October 25, 1926 in James, SD. Harvey graduated from Groton High School in 1944. Upon graduation, Harvey enlisted in the US Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, Harvey returned to take a position at Groton Auto and Tractor. His career with the Chevrolet Dealership in Groton spanned several decades. Harvey finished his working career employed at Groton Elementary School. He served on the Groton City Council for 16 years.
Harvey married Beverly Haight in Watertown on July 21, 1952. This past July, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. After retirement, Harvey and Beverly spent 16 winters in Texas.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Bev of Groton, his three children, Deb Woodworth of Aberdeen; Dan (Julie) Dorfschmidt of Mandan, ND; Jim (DeeAnn) Dorfschmidt of Spearfish, SD, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Dick Kolker, Orville Schaller, Benny Schaller, Tony Goldade, Eddy Nehls and Roger Woodworth.
Casketbearers will be his grandchildren: Sarah Brust, Tom Woodworth, Chris Dorfschmidt, Andrew Dorfschmidt, Katy Dorfschmidt and Matt Dorfschmidt.
