Services for Helen Dresbach, 88, of Groton will be 2:00pm, Monday, September 8th at the First Presbyterian Church, Groton. Rev. Terry Kenny will officiate. Burial will follow in Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. www.paetznick-garness.com
Visitation will be held at the chapel from 4-8pm on Sunday with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Helen passed away September 4, 2008 at Centennial Hospice Cottages in Sioux Falls.
Helen Ada Belle was born on March 13, 1920 in Ordway, South Dakota to Otto and Ada (Huntington) Hassenpflug. She moved to Groton as a child, and spent the remainder of her life there. Helen was married to D. W. (Ike) Dresbach in 1940. She was employed as a secretary with the Groton School District for 21 years. Upon retirement, Helen spent many hours volunteering for community organizations and knitting bandages and infant caps for third world countries.
Helen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Groton and had held many offices there, including President of the Presbyterian Women, Trustee and Elder. Helen also belonged to the Rebekah Lodge #75 of Redfield, a branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows since May of 1947 and was recently honored with a Veteran's Jewel Status for 60 years of service. She held many offices locally and several appointed offices in the State Rebekah Assembly.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children; Sondra (Sam) Delceppo of Lancaster, California, Chuck (Julie) Dresbach of Sioux Falls, seven grandchildren; Todd, Mario, Helen, Trina, Trenton, Amber and Kallie, three step-grandchildren; Reno, Joni and Jessie, eight great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband, her daughter, Paulette Green, three brothers and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Clayton Sternhagen, Jon Anderson, Keith Green, Jim Ackman, Eddy Nehls and David McCullough.
Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Groton or the Rebekah Lodge in Redfield.
