Services for Irene Rehfuss, 89, of Groton will be 10:30 am, Monday, September 8th at St. John's Lutheran Church, Groton. Rev. Craig Grams will officiate. Burial will follow in Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. www.paetznick-garness.com
Visitation will be held at St. John's Church from 4-8pm with a prayer service at 8:00pm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services on Monday.
Irene passed away September 5, 2008 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen.
Irene M. Osman was born to Joseph and Ella (Brendemuehl) Osman on June 17, 1919 in Groton. She attended school in Groton, graduating in 1937. Irene was employed at Millers Beauty Shop for several years. She married Charles Eldon Rehfuss on December 10, 1939. They moved to Washington while her husband worked in the Bremerton shipyards. They returned to Groton in 1941, when her husband was called into the service. Irene began working for First National Bank and later was employed at Berry & Werth's International Harvesters. She stayed at home for several years to raise their two children, later returning to work part-time at their grocery store. Irene then worked many years for James Valley Telephone Company before retiring in 1984.
Irene was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Missionary Circle and the 20th Century Club. She served as City Treasurer for thirty years and volunteered her time at The Colonial Manor, now Golden Living Center, in Groton.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children; Ronald Rehfuss of Orange, Texas, Betty Rehfuss of Bottineau, North Dakota, three grandchildren; Heath Rehfuss, Jada Phillips, Allana Levens and four great-grandchildren; Hallie Stack, Jadyn Stack, Kailey Levens and Samuel Phillips.
Preceding her in death was her husband and one brother.
Casketbearers will be John Lowary, Larry Fliehs, Bill Schuelke, Ben Schaller, Terry Herron and Bill McKiver.
Memorials may be sent to Gideons International or to the family, to be used toward a gift for the nursing home.
