Leone Henjum Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Leone Henjum, 99, of Conde will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 13th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Turton.  Father Mark Axtmann will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Conde under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.  

Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to services with a rosary beginning at 9:45 a.m.

Leone passed away May 10, 2021 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

Leone Margaret was born on December 24, 1921 to Paul and Hazel (Klapperich) Brown on her grandparent’s farm near Conde, SD.  She attended a country school in Beotia Township for 8 years.  She worked for room and board in Conde during high school and for Place and Height Mercantile Store following graduation. 


On August 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Melvin Henjum.  Leone held various jobs over the years, including working at People’s Bank, typing for a lawyer, doing bookwork for the Conde Electric Co. and ordering films for the local movie theater. 


Leone was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church where she held several offices including Altar Society and Catholic Daughters.  She was also active in the Legion Auxiliary, as Benton Township clerk and in bowling league. 


Celebrating her life is her son, Joseph (Kristy) Henjum of Conde, her three grandsons, Matt (Melissa) Henjum, Kyle (Nicole) Henjum, Brad (Jessica) Henjum, great-grandchildren, Kylee, Kendall, & Hadley and her brothers, Edward (Ruth) Brown of Aberdeen and Marvin (Doris) Brown of Kewanee, Illinois.  


Preceding her in death were here parents, an infant brother, and her husband.


Casketbearers will be Todd Grandpre, Troy Grandpre, Kasey Larson, Clinton Van Hatten, Ron Schneider and Brandon Schneider.
