Mass of Christian Burial for Lillian Schwab, 90, of Andover will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 7th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Groton. Father Mike Kelly will officiate. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.
Lillian passed away July 3, 2011 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen.
Lillian Grace was born on August 15, 1920 to Henry and Hulda (Johnson) Simonette at Sedgwick Township in Hyde County. She attended grade school in Illinois Township and graduated from Highmore High School. Lillian continued her education at Dakota Wesleyan University, earning her B.A. in Commercial Arts. She taught in Kadoka and Huron before uniting in marriage with Anton Schwab on June 17, 1961 in Huron. Together they made their home on the Schwab family farm and Lillian taught for several years in Brentford. Lillian continued to live on the farm following Tony's death in November of 2001.
Lillian was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Andover and later St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Groton. She was active in the Altar Society and National Catholic Society of Foresters. Lillian enjoyed gardening and was a member in both the Groton Garden Club and Friendship Garden Club, having held the position of State President in South Dakota's Foundation of Garden Clubs. Lillian had been active on the Day County Museum Board, Day County Farm Bureau and on State and National Education Associations. She was honored to have been named in the "Who's Who" in South Dakota and the American Education Books, as well as, listed on Congressional Record for work on Equal Rights Legislation. Lillian was named as South Dakota Ambassador of the Diplomatic Corps, and had received the National Extension Homemaker's Award for her volunteer service.
Surviving her are two cousins; Elmer Johnson, Duane & Kitty Johnson and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband.
Casketbearers will be Carl Schwab, Ed Miller, Jeff Miller, Eric Miller, Graig Volk and Kerry Parcel.
