Graveside services for Lyle Buffington, former area resident, will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 22nd at Groton Union Cemetery. Pastor Nancy Manning will officiate. Inurnment will follow under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Lyle passed away September 29, 2010 in New York, where he had resided for the past 60 years.
Lyle Horace Buffington was born on December 31, 1921 to Clarence & Edith (Peterson) Buffington in rural Claremont. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1939. Lyle taught country school for several years before enlisting in the US Navy. After receiving a medical discharge, he attended Tufts College in Boston and earned a degree in Math. Lyle taught in New York and New Jersey
Survivors include his siblings, Orville (Karen) Buffington of Tigard, Oregon; Virginia Pulfrey of Claremont; Rodney Buffington of Berwick, Louisiana; Richard Buffington of Minnesota and Gene (Dixie) Buffington of Sioux Falls.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his siblings; Harley Buffington and Grace Brown. His sister, Eunice Sperry, has also recently passed away.
