Mass of Christian Burial for Lyle Von Wald, 94, of Groton will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 12th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Groton. Concelebrating will be Father Mike Kelly and Monsignor Marvin McPhee. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton
Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. with a wake at 6:00 p.m.
Lyle passed away peacefully on September 08, 2012, with family at his side, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.
Lyle was born on September 3, 1918 in Groton, SD to Valentine and Lizzie (Paepke) Von Wald. He graduated from Groton High School with the class of 1934. Lyle was united in marriage with Lucille Bertsch on December 1, 1942, being married nearly 70 years.
Prior to his retirement, Lyle owned and operated Von Wald Real Estate and Insurance.
Besides his family, who was the love of his life, Lyle had a passion for hunting with his sons and playing cards with anyone who would play with him. He was known for his quiet personality and gentle spirit, as well as his one-liners.
Celebrating his life is his wife, Lucille and sons, Jack (Diann) Von Wald of Aberdeen; David (Sheila) Von Wald of Hoven; Gregory (Nancy) Von Wald of Mitchell; and Jeffry Von Wald and Michael Levy of Croton, New York. Lyle is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Clarence and sister, Laverne.
Casket bearers will be his grandsons John Von Wald, T.J. Von Wald, Ryan Von Wald, and grandsons-in-law Joe Beadle, Bill Hohenecker, and Pete Schwartzbauer.
