Marilyn Goodman, 90, of Groton passed away August 24, 2023 at Avantara Groton after an extended illness. No formal services will be held.
Marilyn Joyce Goodman was born on April 22, 1933 in La Salle Township, Michigan to William Russell and Loretta Wilhelmina (Hoefflin) Redlinger. She attended school in Monroe County, Michigan with many cousins until moving with her family to Marion, Indiana. Marilyn attended Marion College before transferring to Kentucky Mountain Bible College where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.
Marilyn married William LeRoy (Butcher) Goodman on April 22, 1957 in Southern California. The newlyweds served briefly as missionaries in Puerto Rico before returning to Southern California to start their family. They remained there most of their married life, serving in local churches and teaching elementary students. At an early age, Marilyn began playing piano and loved playing for her church, family and friends. She became an accomplished pianist and taught others to play. She and William loved animals and cared for many cats and dogs with challenges.
After Marilyn’s husband passed away in 2014 she moved to Groton, South Dakota to be with her niece, Karen Johnson and family. Marilyn ultimately needed professional care and the family is grateful for the staff and caregivers at Avantara Groton.
Preceding her in death was her husband, parents, brothers, John Marvin Redlinger and Russell William Redlinger and one infant grandson.
Survivors include children, Marilynne Ruth Sneyd (Charles) and William (Billy) Charles Goodman, grandsons, Lukas Sneyd and Clinton Goodman (Timia), great grandson Quinton “Quinnie” Goodman as well as many nieces and nephews.
