Services for Marjorie Dunker, 82, of Groton will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 9th at St. John's Lutheran Church, Groton. Rev. Craig Grams will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday.
Marj passed away April 06, 2009 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen.
Marjorie Helen Shilman was born on January 5, 1927 to John and Emma (Bugner) Shilman in Mansfield, South Dakota. She was baptized on January 30, 1927 in Mansfield and was confirmed on July 14, 1941 at St. John's Church, Highland Township. Marj attended school near Mina and later began working for National Tea Grocery. On October 6, 1944, she united in marriage with Dale Albert Dunker. Together they lived and farmed near Verdon. Marjorie worked outside of the home for several years at Juel Egg Company and Volk Drug Store. After 36 years on the farm, she and Dale retired and moved to Groton.
Marjorie was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Groton where she had served as Treasurer for the LWML and Stamp Chairman for many years. In earlier years, they had belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ferney, where Marjorie sang in the choir. Marjorie was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 35 years. She enjoyed gardening and sharing those items with family and friends. She will forever be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Celebrating her life through memories are her six children, Jacquelyn (Lewis) Hammond of Sioux Falls; Sandra Strom of Groton; Nancy Larsen of Groton; Steven (Betty) Dunker of Groton; Susan (Terry) Ellingson of Aberdeen; Douglas (Denice) Dunker of Herriman, Utah, twelve grandchildren, Brad Hammond, Brooke (Ryan) Kappenman, Rich (Mary) Strom, Terri (Brian) Schuring, Joey (Josh) Schilling, Jennifer (Jeff) Keimig, Lance Larsen, Craig (Tasha) Dunker, Darcy Dunker, Scott (Jaime) Ellingson, Ryan Ellingson and Chad Ellingson, fourteen great-grandchildren, Matt, Michael, Jakob and Sara Strom, Morgan, Alexa, and Sean Schuring, Finley and Malakai Schilling, Colby and Rylee Dunker, Landon Dunker, Aubrey and Brady Ellingson.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, one sister, Evelyn Stroh and her son-in-law, Richard Strom.
Honorary Casketbearers will be all of Marjorie's Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and many friends.
Casketbearers will be Craig Dunker, Tom Tietz, Ryan Ellingson, Chad Ellingson, Brian Schuring, Jeff Keimig, Lance Larsen and Ryan Kappenman.
