Services for Mary Habeck, 97, of Newberg, Oregon and formerly of Groton, will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 28th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ferney. Rev. Lloyd Redhage will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Mary passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Newberg Care Center.
Mary completed 8th grade at St.Mary's Catholic School. She then went to work at Tiffany's Laundry for 9 cents and hour, walking 12 blocks to get to work. February 9, 1937 she married Ernest Habeck and became a farmer's wife and home maker, raising their 4 children. She became a Lutheran early in her married life and was very active in her church, the quilt club and the Groton Sr. Citizens.
As a newlywed Mary moved to farm life in Minnesota, Ordway, SD, Columbia SD, then to Oregon for 10 years as a gas station owner, then back to farm life in rural Groton. After the death of her spouse she moved into Groton.
At age 94 having never been in a hospital since her last childbirth she fell and fractured a hip. At age 95 she spent her birthday in Oklahoma with her brother on his 92nd birthday July 8th. October the same year she fell and fractured the other hip. March 2009 she fractured her femur. July 30th, 2010 she fell and broke some ribs. She was recovering very well from all these hospital trips, and rehab centers experiences. A severe stroke August 15th took her life six days after the event.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Theresa (Tracy), Karen, and one son, Paul,
9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and one brother, Mike of Ponca City, OK, also several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Frank and Frances Blando, one son Richard, one grandson Jan , 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
Mary spent the last 3 years of her life with her daughter Tracy and husband in Newberg, OR. Mary was a very kind, loving person with many family members and many friends both in SD and Oregon that were blessed to have shared in her life. She was a friend to everyone she met.
