Memorial services for Morris Bawek, 85, of Conde will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2011 at St. John's Catholic Church, Conde. Father Mike Kelly will officiate. Inurnment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Conde
A private family service will be held on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Morris passed away August 25, 2011 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen.
Morris James was born on August 12, 1926 in Conde to Mathias and Helen (Bertsch) Bawek. He attended school in Conde and later became trained as a mechanic. Morris was united in marriage with Joyce Nehls on July 18, 1949 in Conde and together they raised 7 children: Bonnie (Lester) Lentsch; Brenda (George) Snaza of Bridgewater, SD; Pam Monson of Aberdeen; Barry (Deanna) Bawek of Conde; Don (Barb) Bawek of Conde; Cindy (Curt) Haskell of Conde and Cheryl (Jim) Sayler of Aberdeen.
They made their home in various places before settling down in 1955 when they moved to Grenville. There, they started a garage, and later, bought into the gravel business. In 1974, the family moved to Conde and began Bawek Construction, where Morris began operating as a gravel contractor.
Morris was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Conde. He enjoyed fixing all types of items, especially antiques and cars. He could be found tinkering in his shop on most days. Morris will forever be remembered as a loving husband, dad, grandpa and friend.
Celebrating his life through memories are his wife, Joyce, children, 22 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his brother, Ron (Becky) Bawek of Conde and his sister, Janice Taylor of Conde.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his daughter, Bonnie Lantsch, his grandson, Isaiah Haskell, one infant brother, Donald Duane Bawek, his sister, Dolores Geary and two brother-in-laws, Glen Geary and LaVerne Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of Morris's Grandchildren.
