Services for Peggy Hoops, 75, of Groton will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ferney. Rev. Lloyd Redhage will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the chapel on Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Peggy passed away July 18, 2023 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen.
Peggy Leona Hoops was born on November 2, 1947 in Canton, Ohio to Arthur and Ruby M. (Engle) LeMunyon. Her father was re-located to Concord, California where Peggy graduated from College Park High School in 1965. She continued her education at a Junior College while taking in ironing/sewing work. She moved with her family to Japan and was employed with the Department of the Navy. There she met her future husband, Robert James Hoops. Bob and Peggy returned to Georgia following Vietnam and they were married on September 21, 1968. The couple then moved back to South Dakota and were blessed with three children. Peggy was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ferney in 1971. Over the years, Peggy was employed at Avera St. Lukes, Colonial Manor in Housekeeping. She later began cooking at The Red Horse, Victor’s Supper Club and the Groton School. Before retirement, she returned to Golden Living Center.
Peggy was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was active in Bible Study Group. She enjoyed camping, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family. She was also an American Legion Auxiliary member.
Celebrating her life are her children, Richard Hoops of Britton, Patrick (Tamara) Hoops of Bristol, many grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Beth (Dale) Holt of Lenoir, TN, Nancy (Andy) Hammonds of New Bern, SC.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1992, her daughter, Crystal LeBeau, granddaughter, Rebecca Hoops and brother, Harry John LeMunyon.
Honorary Casketbearers are Tom Belden and Chuck Hoops.
Casketbearers will be David Hoops, James Richard Hoops, Jr., Chris Pigors, Aaron Herman, Hayden Pigors and Cody Bonn.
