Rex Allen Sippel

Rex A. Sippel was born on February 5, 1951, in Aberdeen, SD to Wesley and Lorraine (Weihrauch) Sippel.

Rex grew up on the family farm North of Groton, SD. He attended Groton high school, graduating in 1969. From there he went to school at Lake Area in Watertown for building trades.

While in school he met his first wife, Carol Goldammer. From this union two children were born, Michelle and Jeff. During this time in his life, they had moved back to the Groton area and followed in his father's footsteps in farming. Years later he met and married his second wife, Teri Schott. To this union two more children were born, Chris and Heather. He stayed in the area, continuing to farm and began milking cows. As life turned and years went on, he met his current wife, Cindy Balo. To this union he gained another child, Nick.

He continued farming in the area and worked for various local farmers. When his health no longer allowed him to farm, he worked at Avera Mother Joseph Manor for thirteen years. During this time, he found his love in the kitchen, cooking for all of their residents. He retired from the Manor and began working at Agtegra in Columbia, SD. He worked there for a few years until his health took a toll. Throughout Rex’s life he had various hobbies including hunting, snow mobiling, tractor pulls and restoring old tractors.

Funeral Services for Rex will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the 2:00 P.M. at the Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel in Groton with one hour of visitation prior to the services.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at the chapel.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; children, Michelle (Matt) Blackburn, Jeff (Alicia) Sippel, Chris Sippel, Heather (Bobby) Paradis, Nick (Katie) Bratland; grandchildren, Piper Blackburn, Cole (Taylor) Sippel, Cody Sippel, Madyson Paradis, Ethan Paradis, Olivia Blackburn, and Oliver Bratland; a brother Bob Sippel, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rex is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley (Butch) and Lorraine Sippel and brother, Mick Sippel.
