Services for Richard Jones, 79, of Groton will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17th at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Groton. Pastor Elizabeth Johnson will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the church from 4-8 p.m. on Friday with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Richard passed away September 14, 2011 at Golden Living Center, Groton.
Richard LeRoy was born on June 6, 1932 in Clark to Austin and Ethel (Jenkins) Jones. He graduated from Clark High School. Richard enlisted in the US Army and served from 1952-1954. He was united in marriage with Darlene Larson on September 30, 1958 in Watertown. The couple later moved to Groton where they raised their three children. Richard worked as a machinist at Hub City Inc.
Richard was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He also belonged to the Groton Legion Post #39 and Union Lodge 863. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Celebrating his life is his wife, Darlene, his three children; Melenie (Doug) Sombke of Groton, Steven (Renee) Jones of Morgan City, Louisiana, Jim (Mendy) Jones of Groton, nine grandchildren; Nikki (Kevin) Kotzer, Brett Sombke, Bryce Sombke, Bryan (Whitney) Sombke, JayCee Jones, Tyler Jones, Marlee Jones, Austin Jones, Emerlee Jones and two great-grandchildren, Adeline Kotzer and Haivyn Benning. Richard is also survived by his brother, Loren Jones of Seattle, Washington and three sisters; Marian Hallberg of Andover, Minnesota, Bernice Halling of Clark and Lois Gabriel of Great Falls, Montana.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister-in-law, Irene Jones; three brother-in-laws; Kenneth Hallberg, Bill Halling and Darrel Gabriel; his nephew, Douglas Hallberg; and his first wife Doris Erdahl Jones.
Casketbearers will be all of Richard's grandsons.
