Services for Richard Zoellner, 84, of Groton will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 11th at the United Methodist Church, Groton. Rev. Rob Moorlach will officiate. Burial will follow in Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held Wednesday at the chapel from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Richard passed away June 6, 2009 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen.
Richard John Zoellner was born in Groton on March 4, 1925 to Otto and Christina (Von Wald) Zoellner. He was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church of Groton. Following school, Richard worked with his dad on the family farm. On September 12, 1949 he united in marriage with Doris Strom at the Groton United Methodist Church and together they farmed for many years.
Richard was a member of the Farmer's Union and a former board member of Henry Township. He could often be found helping his neighbors, driving to check crops or storytelling. Richard enjoyed watching baseball games, hunting, playing cards and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Celebrating his life through memories is his wife, Doris, four children; Kenneth Zoellner of Lake Forest, California, Yvonne (Jim) Bailey of Sioux Falls, Kathy (Richard) Engel of Warsaw, Poland, Bill (Wanda) Zoellner of Groton and eight grandchildren; Katie, Michael, Matthew, David, Samantha, Bailee, Tia and Christina.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Robert.
Honorary Casketbearers will be all of Richard's friends.
Casketbearers will be Art Zoellner, Joel Zoellner, Alan Zoellner, Loel Schott, Landal Leonhardt and Bill McKiver.
