Services for Robert Hood, 82, of Groton will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 12th at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Rev. Rob Moorlach will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Groton Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. on Friday.
Bob passed away December 7, 2009 at his residence in Groton.
Robert Royal was born on May 20, 1927 to Gerald Carver and Elizabeth Turley in Mitchell, South Dakota. He was adopted June 19, 1927 by Robert Leigh and Olive Hood. Bob attended country school near Groton and graduated from Groton High School in 1945. He continued his education at Brookings and spent one year at the Minneapolis School of Art. Bob entered the Army in 1951 and served in Korea until 1953. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Art school and graduated in 1956.
Upon returning to Groton, Bob worked at Vance Millers store for several years. He then began working at First National Bank, later named Norwest and Wells Fargo and retired in 1988.
Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church, where he served as the organist for many years. He also sang in the choir. Bob enjoyed big-band music, photography and developing pictures. He did art work and sketches for many Groton functions over the years. Bob was also active in Kiwanis and often decorated the stage for the Snow Queen Contest.
Survivors include his two cousins, Ron (Mary Ann) Hood of Gibson City, Illinois and Bette Wahlen and her daughter, Jennifer (Ron) Butzow and their sons of Elgin, Illinois.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents.
Casketbearers will be Larry Schelle, Steve Wilson, Wally Fischer, David J. Krueger, Joel Hornaman and Chris Kassube.
