Robert Matheny

Memorial services for Robert Matheny will be held Friday, September 4th at 2pm at the Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, SD. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 7th at Union Cemetery in Groton, SD.

Robert W Matheny passed away September 1, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

He was born at Redfield SD on July 30, 1920, to Bert and Maude (Ayars) Matheny. He was inducted into the US Army in 1942 and served with the 12th Armored Division in the European Theatre until his honorable discharge in 1946. On Friday, August 13, 1943 he married Ann Marie Schuller. He completed his education at South Dakota State College after his military service. Over the years he worked for the US Soil Conservation Service, South Dakota Department of Transportation, US Fish and Wildlife Services and private companies as a real estate appraiser.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann Marie, of 65 years and is survived by his daughter, Ann L Matheny of Spearfish, SD.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the High Plains Western Heritage Center in Spearfish or the Spearfish United Methodist Church.
