Rod Hinrichs

Services for Rod Hinrichs, 64, of Groton will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 26th at the United Methodist Church in Claremont. Rev. Matt Richards will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held at Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.

Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Rod passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at his residence in Groton.

Rod Earl was born on September 14, 1949 in Britton to Don and Marjorie (Perkins) Hinrichs. He attended school in the Claremont School District, graduating in 1967. He continued his education at Northern State College in Aberdeen majoring in Business Education. Upon graduation from college, Rod served in the US Army in Germany from October 1971 through September of 1974. Rod received the National Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Following his honorable discharge, he taught business, typing and computer classes in the Willow Lake, Hitchcock and Roscoe School Districts.

Rod was a member of the Claremont United Methodist Church and the Claremont American Legion. In his early years, and while at Northern State, he excelled in bowling. He was an avid computer user/repairman; coin collector and enjoyed fishing on the local lakes and the Missouri River. Rod also enjoyed attending family members sporting events, putting jigsaw puzzles together and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings on TV. He was always willing to help anyone in need, and managed activities at the farm as his parents grew older.

Celebrating his life is his brother, Rex Hinrichs of Madison, Wisconsin, his sister, Jean (Brad) Carson of Chamberlain, his aunt, Drucilla Hinrichs of Claremont, nephew, Brendan (Carrie) Hinrichs and their daughter Evey of Aberdeen, niece, Whitney Hinrichs of Blaine, Minnesota, nephew, Donovan Carson of Chamberlain, nephew, Davis Carson of Chamberlain and many cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Don & Marjorie and his brother, Jan Hinrichs.

Casketbearers will be Ron Wegleitner, Bruce Sanderson, Gary Rasmussen, Chuck Nietert, Sherm Cutler and Kurtis Larson.
