Roger Ball Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Roger Ball, 56, of Conde will be 10:00am, Tuesday, July 22nd at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Turton. Father Christopher Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Conde under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. www.paetznick-garness.com

Visitation will be held at St. John's Catholic Church, Conde from 4-8pm on Monday with a liturgical wake service at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church in Turton on Tuesday.

Roger passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008 from injuries sustained in a plane crash near Cook Inlet, Alaska.

Henry Roger Ball was born on June 23, 1952 to Henry and Lila (Herr) Ball in Conde. He attended grade school in Verdon and graduated from Conde High School in 1970. Roger continued his education at Lake Area Vocational School in Watertown, specializing in building trades. Following school he was employed with Kyburz Construction. Roger returned home to the family farm operation in 1976. He stayed active in construction by assisting family and friends in building their homes. He was united in marriage with Ranae Hearnen on June 9, 1979 and together they made their home near Conde.

Roger was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Conde where he had served on the parish council. He was also active in the Conde Men's Club and Bates Township Board. He became a seed dealer for Cargill Seed Company, and currently sold Prairie Brand Seed. As a result, he met many new friends and acquaintances. He had served as President of the Conde Alumni Association and had also been a member of the Jaycees. Roger loved the outdoors, especially when it involved hunting and fishing. He will forever be remembered for his thoughtfulness and generosity for family and community.

Celebrating his life through memories is his wife, Ranae, his children; Ryan Ball of Fargo, Ashley Ball of Brookings, his mother, Lila Olson of Groton, two sisters; Janet (Jerry) Lehman of Groton, Barb (Jerry) Hoefler of Greeley, Colorado, one step-sister; Eileen (Ed) Brandt of Ute, Iowa and two step-brothers; Roy (Debra) Olson of Groton and Rev. Phillip (Ginny) Olson of Ridgeway, Iowa.

Preceding him in death was his father, his step-father, Maurice Olson, one sister, Loretta Avery, and two brothers-in-law; Earl Steinhoff and Howard Dirksen.

Honorary Casketbearers will be all of Roger's hunting, fishing and farming
friends.

Casketbearers will be Dave Kampa, Charlie Johnson, Joe Henjum, Brent Larson, Jeff Thomas and Jim Schwaderer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Conde Fire Department or the Groton Municipal Swimming Pool Fund.
