Ruth Tobin

Services for Ruth Tobin, 94, of Pierpont will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 5th at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Rev. Craig Werling and Rev. Janine Rew-Werling will officiate. .Burial will follow at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, Langford.  

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 5-7 p.m.

Ruth passed away February 1, 2022 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.

Ruth Marie was born, November 20, 1927, at home in Sisseton Township, Marshall County to Roy and Clara (Hansen) Hanson.

She was baptized and confirmed at Highlanda Lutheran Church, rural Langford. She attended rural grade school, Sisseton #2, across the road from her farm. She attended and graduated from Langford High School where she met Jennings Tobin. She went on to attend Northern State Teachers College and got a 2 year teaching certificate. She taught 2nd grade for 3 years in Milbank, SD.

On October 1, 1950 Ruth married an area farmer Jennings N. Tobin. They made their rural home on the former George Tobin farm, between Langford and Pierpont. Ruth was a total farm wife who enjoyed running errands, bringing lunches and help in moving equipment.

Ruth and Jennings raised 2 children: Rodney Tobin, who is now farming the family farm and Jane Ode an RN, Brandon, SD. 

Ruth was an active member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford and Highlanda Lutheran Church.  In 1982, Ruth was diagnosed with MS.  Although it slowed her down physically, she never let it get her down.

Ruth is survived and missed by her 2 children – 5 grandchildren – 11 great grandchildren.  Rodney and Evelyn Tobin and their children: Chelsea (Jared) Paulson – great grandchildren Elly, Jesse, & Neve Paulson, Rachel (Jordan) Lynde – great grandchildren, Maggie, Rowan and Sloane Lynde, Shauna (Chris) Nickeson – great grandchildren, Brynlee & Wyatt Nickeson, Jane and Gregg Ode and their children:  Alex (Alicia) Ode – great grandchildren Ava & Aria Ode, Elisabeth (Trevor) Martinmaas – great granddaughter Carter Martinmaas.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Jennings on October 22, 2017, her parents, Roy and Clara Hanson and parents-in-law, George and Inger Tobin.

The family requests no flowers or plants.  Memorials may be directed to Hillside Cemetery c/o Pete Hardy, PO Box 64, Langford, SD 57454.
