Services for Walter Kroll, 76, of Andover will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 28th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ferney. Rev. Lloyd Redhage will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the chapel from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Walter passed away April 23, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Groton.
Walter Richard Kroll was born on August 2, 1933 in Bates Township to Richard Otto and Emma Sophie (Hoops) Kroll. He grew up on several farms in the area until settling on the Klabo farm in East Hanson Township in Brown County. Walter entered the US Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955. He was united in marriage with Alice Hildebrant on July 15, 1958. Together they made their home near Ferney, where Walter farmed and also did welding work for Horsch Anderson.
Walter was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ferney and had held various positions, including elder and trustee. He belonged to the VFW in Bristol and later in Webster and was a member of American Legion Post #148 in Conde. Walter served on the Farmers Union board for many years, as well as on the county township board. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Celebrating his life through memories is his wife, Alice; three children, Allan Kroll of Conde, Julie Woodland (Tim Mack) of Castlewood, Ron (Luanne) Kroll of Groton; nine grandchildren, David (Kyla) Kroll, Branden Kroll, Amanda Woodland, Stephanie Woodland, Sarah Woodland, Brittany Kroll and fiancAC. John Bergeson, Casey Kroll, Parker Kroll and seven great-grandchildren. Walter is also survived by three sisters, Helen Morse of Kent, Washington; Adeline (Jack) Blair of Andover; Rose Dinger of Kent, Washington, his sister-in-law, Billie Kroll of Pasadena, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant daughter, Joan; two brothers, Gunther Kroll and Richard Kroll and two brothers-in-law, George Dinger and James "Web" Morse.
Honorary Casketbearers will be all of Walter's friends and family and his co-workers at Horsch Anderson.
Casketbearers will be Randy Gonsoir, Richard Hoops, Rick Pigors, Donald Blair, Steve Shanley and Richard Kroll.
